Be sure to check out Part 1 of "How to Beat Hangovers", where you'll find practical steps to prepare before a night out and minimise the chances of a hangover. Following on, there are some tips and tricks to note when actually on a night out that can influence the severity of your hangover the next day…

Tips for the Night

1# Stay Consistent With Drink Choice:

When pre-drinking and ordering drinks out, it helps to stay consistent by sticking to one type of alcohol. Avoiding mixing different types of alcohol helps, as different drinks contain chemicals that when combined, can worsen hangovers. For example, avoid drinking wine and vodka on the same night.

2# Go clear:

The clearer alcohols have typically fewer toxins (e.g., vodka and tequila), whereas the darker liquors (e.g., whisky and rum) usually contain more. Therefore, choosing a clearer alcohol minimises the amount of toxins your body has to process, which can leave you feeling less drained.

3# Avoid Carbonation:

Avoiding carbonated mixers helps reduce hangovers because carbonation speeds up alcohol absorption in the stomach. This leads to higher blood alcohol levels faster. Consequently making it harder for your body to process the toxins, creating a build-up that you will feel in the morning.

4# Set a pace:

Ensure to set a pace when drinking, giving your body time to process the alcohol; this will help with the hangover the next morning. Also, try alternating alcoholic drinks with water or non-alcoholic options to help stay hydrated and give your body more time to process the alcohol.

5# Don’t Drink Before Bed:

Drinking right up until you sleep doesn’t allow for any recovery before you sleep. It’s recommended to stop drinking at least an hour before heading to bed to leave you feeling more refreshed when you wake up.

Conclusion

Overall, following even one of these 5 tips can help you feel better in the mornings, allowing you to make the most of your trip and spend as little time as possible feeling hungover. Drink the same drinks, stay clear when choosing alcohol, avoid fizzy mixers, set a pace, and try to have your last alcoholic drink at least an hour before bed.
