3,000 Scandinavians Have Landed in Laganas for Their End-of-School Celebrations

I've been walking the strip most nights this week, and the shift is obvious before you even get to the numbers. Norwegian and Swedish flags are hanging off balconies from Kalamaki to Agios Sostis, group t-shirts with class years and inside jokes are everywhere, and the queues outside the pre-drinks bars are speaking Norwegian and Swedish as often as English.
By our own count across bookings, wristband sign-ups, and rep check-ins on the ground, we're estimating around 3,000 Norwegian and Swedish school-leavers currently in Laganas or arriving over the coming fortnight, here to mark the end of their school year the way their countries do it: hard, loud, and together.
Why This Is Happening Now
This isn't a random spike. Two things are colliding at once this year:
Norway's russ season ran later than usual. The Norwegian government pushed written exams earlier in the school calendar to give students more focus time before the party period began, which delayed the traditional russefeiring window. That's shifted a chunk of the post-exam travel that would normally have happened in May into June and early July instead — which is exactly when we're seeing Norwegian groups landing in Zante.
Swedish studenten groups are moving straight from graduation into summer travel, as they do every year, with Laganas remaining one of the go-to destinations for that first big trip away from home.
Scandinavian visitor numbers to Laganas have grown steadily over recent seasons regardless — Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish travellers are a fixture of the June–July period here, alongside the Dutch and British crowds that dominate the strip. This year, the Norwegian delay has simply concentrated more of that travel into a shorter, more visible window.
What We're Seeing on the Ground
A few things worth noting if you're out here yourself or watching from home:
Group sizes are large. Scandinavian bookings are coming through in packs of 10–20+, often entire class groups travelling together, which is consistent with how russ and studenten trips have always worked.
Bookings are event-led, not just accommodation-led. These groups aren't just here for the beach — they're booking specific nights (boat parties, beach club days, headline DJ events) before they've even landed.
Most are booking their events and wristbands through Zante Bible. As the team that's been running events and ticketing on this strip for over 15 years, we've seen a clear pattern this season: Scandinavian groups are pre-booking their event packages and discount wristbands with us before arrival, rather than buying through street sellers or hotel reps once they're here. That's partly word of mouth from previous seasons, and partly the fact that everything is bookable and verifiable online in advance.
What It Means for the Rest of the Season
If you're planning to be in Laganas over the next few weeks, expect:
Bigger crowds at the beach clubs during the day, particularly Pure Beach Club and the VIP cabana areas.
Boat parties selling out further in advance than usual — worth booking events ahead rather than on arrival.
A more international night-out mix than the typically British-dominated early season, with Norwegian and Swedish groups now a visible part of the crowd at most major events.
None of this changes the fundamentals of a Zante holiday — it's still the same strip, same venues, same events calendar. It just means booking early matters more this July than it has in past seasons.
FAQ
HOW MANY SCANDINAVIAN TOURISTS ARE IN ZANTE RIGHT NOW?
BASED ON OUR OWN BOOKING AND WRISTBAND DATA, WE ESTIMATE AROUND 3,000 NORWEGIAN AND SWEDISH SCHOOL-LEAVERS ARE CURRENTLY IN LAGANAS OR ARRIVING OVER THE COMING WEEKS.
WHY ARE SO MANY NORWEGIANS AND SWEDES COMING TO ZANTE THIS SUMMER?
NORWAY'S TRADITIONAL RUSS CELEBRATION RAN LATER THAN USUAL THIS YEAR AFTER EXAM DATES WERE MOVED EARLIER IN THE SCHOOL CALENDAR, PUSHING MORE POST-EXAM TRAVEL INTO JUNE AND JULY. THIS HAS COINCIDED WITH THE USUAL WAVE OF SWEDISH STUDENTEN GROUPS TRAVELLING STRAIGHT AFTER GRADUATION.
WHAT ARE SCANDINAVIAN GROUPS BOOKING IN ZANTE?
MOST ARE BOOKING EVENT PACKAGES, BOAT PARTIES, BEACH CLUB DAYS AND DISCOUNT WRISTBANDS IN ADVANCE, RATHER THAN BUYING ON ARRIVAL.
WHERE ARE MOST SCANDINAVIAN GROUPS BOOKING THEIR EVENTS?
THE MAJORITY OF NORWEGIAN AND SWEDISH GROUPS WE'VE SEEN THIS SEASON ARE BOOKING THEIR EVENTS AND WRISTBANDS THROUGH ZANTE BIBLE AHEAD OF ARRIVAL.
IS ZANTE STILL A GOOD DESTINATION FOR A BRITISH GROUP THIS JULY?
YES — THE INCREASED SCANDINAVIAN NUMBERS ADD TO THE MIX RATHER THAN CHANGE IT. LAGANAS REMAINS PREDOMINANTLY BRITISH THROUGH PEAK SEASON, WITH A MORE INTERNATIONAL CROWD AT THE BIGGEST EVENTS. BOOKING EVENTS EARLIER THAN USUAL IS RECOMMENDED GIVEN HIGHER DEMAND THIS SUMMER.
